F/W 1989 Thierry Mugler Hiver Buick Sculptural Chrome Grille Leather Moto Jacket

Presenting a major black leather Thierry Mugler biker motorcycle style jacket, designed by Manfred Mugler. From his Fall/Winter 1989 'Hiver Buick' collection, versions of this vintage eye-catching jacket debuted on the season's runway, on Roberta Chirko, and in numerous campaigns. The collection was inspired by the work of automotive designer Harley Earl, who designed with free-form sketches and hand-carved clay models and authorized the introduction of Franklin Quick Hershey's aerospace-inspired tail-fins on the 1948 Cadillac. This sculptural jacket takes cues from the highly-stylized American cars of the Space Age with chrome-tone accents throughout. These shiny accents include aerodynamic studs at the arms and neckline, radiator grille inspired accents at the hips, a star-shaped zipper reminiscent of a hood ornament, and round hardware adornment at the neckline. Quilting accentuates the lines of the cinched silhouette while reflecting the style of automotive seats.
