This Gucci floral dress from the Spring/Summer 1999 collection, designed by Tom Ford, debuted on the runway as look 9, modeled by Maggie Rizer. The dress showcases Ford’s bold red and pink “acid flower” print, a recurring motif throughout the season. It features open sides connected by leather straps and is finished with a ruffled hem. The design appeared in a February 1999 Vogue campaign photographed by Mario Testino, in Dutch Magazine on Emily Sandberg, and was later reissued through the Gucci Vault. The Spring/Summer 1999 collection marked a striking departure from Ford’s signature sleek minimalism, embracing colorful, exaggerated florals and ornate detailing as an exercise in maximalism that still reflected Gucci’s sensual aesthetic.
