This surrealist nude detail trench coat was designed by Tom Ford for Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche. This coat is a rare prototype of look four on the Spring/Summer 2003 runway, worn by Liya Kebede. Also captured by Guy Arch on Eva Riccobono for the February 2003 issue of Elle France. The trench is made of rich dark taupe-colored silk and features patterned stitching on the body of the coat, contouring the female body. This is most apparent in the jacket's bust and backside, each resembling breasts and a derrière. Oversized shoulder pads, epaulets, buttonless cuff straps, and a silk-satin ribbon waist belt give this piece undeniable glamour. This coat was part of Tom Ford's more iconic runways at YSL, and other looks had similar nude references. Ford inspired this collection from YSL's pre-WWII surrealist work, peppering in hints of Dalà and Schiaparelli.
