This black silk chiffon Grecian-inspired gown from Gianni Versace Couture’s Fall/Winter 1998 collection was designed by Donatella Versace for her first F/W season at the helm following Gianni’s passing in 1997. Referencing ancient iconography, the gown reflects the house’s signature codes while honoring Gianni’s legacy. The design features a dramatic side slit accented with black baguette rhinestone Medusa straps that continue across the ruched bodice. This documented piece appeared on Jade Parfitt in the season’s ad campaign photographed by Steven Meisel, and was also featured in the September 1998 issue of Harper’s Bazaar, modeled by Carolyn Murphy and captured by Patrick Demarchelier. A rare and historically significant runway gown, it exemplifies Donatella’s earliest creative vision for Versace.
